Outside the Comfort Zone

It seems like no matter what your hobby or activity is, you end up in a rut or in some form of boredom. When that happens, experts recommend doing something new or stepping out of your comfort zone. For me it is these:

It’s not the pattern that is difficult for me, it’s actually a pattern I’ve done before. The colors are SO not me; orange & I don’t normally get along. I only bought this yarn because I was at Churchmouse Teas & Yarns and didn’t know when I’d be back to fondle the Socks That Rock. Now I must confess that while orange doesn’t look good near my face I think it’ll look great on my feet . So where have you done something you wouldn’t normally do? Did you try entrelac or intarsia? Did you too pick a color you wouldn’t normally go for?

December Completed

It’s the last day of the year & the last day of the month. As if you didn’t know these things of course, but I guess I’m trying to make a point regarding the end of something and I have completed my Advent socks

And in addition to 24 little socks I also finished the Irish Girl Hitchhiker.

hello toes, I’m wearing one of my 1st pairs of hand-knit socks
I like it! And it matches my mittens.
I’m not going to get into goals for next year because I’m not sure what I’d want to do anyway. But I do wish you a happy & healthy new year! See you in 2012

Technically this is the sock from yesterday, but I haven’t decided what to do for the 25th….a big sock? Another small sock? A tree? I’ll mull it over & let you know soon

Day Late

This is yesterday’s sock, finished today :-/ I am 2 behind on my socks for the month so I guess I’d better at least try to make 2 of them tomorrow. Hopefully I’ll have a bit more time since I won’t be babysitting a very busy little toddler while trying to keep my kids from maiming her. Don’t get me wrong, they were quite good with her & were very helpful. Here they are on our way to the library.

Did Not Finish

Alas, I have no sock tonight I could probably push myself to finish it but frankly just blogging right now is making tired.
I can’t believe I’m so close to the end and I’m failing! I got a bit of a late start to the day which I know is no excuse, but I just got lazy & didn’t produce. On the flip side, we took the kids to see Santa & got a few more gifts. Now I’ll just to wrap the gifts and catch up on my sock(s). I need to make 2 tomorrow while watching my toddler niece. Well, I have to finish one & make the other.

Dad’s Birthday

This is my father and today is his birthday! I won’t say how old he is because I think he’s self-conscious about his age. He’s a great guy though & a lover of all Chicago sports especially the Bears. So…since today is his birthday I made a Bears sock. As you can see it’s not perfect; the white outline is missing from the “C”, but I’d say the colors are pretty close

I have three socks to show off today:

Sorry I still can’t figure out how to flip pictures on my phone. The white sock I made Saturday after having lunch at a place called D’Arcy’s Pint. It’s an Irish pub so I thought I’d make an Aran style sock. The blue & red one with the boy is to go along with the girl, nothing special. And the green one is sort of based on the Thuja sock.

Day Missed

You ever have one of those days were you feel like you’ll never get it all done? Well for me that was thursday. While trying to prepare myself for travel I decided it was more important that I exercise than it was for me to make a sock

I was able to make one today, 1/2 somewhere over northern California & the other 1/2 around Kansas The pattern is from Cozy Sunny Day based on the Little Cotton Rabbits but I switched it to work in the round.
